Be sure to be present to be a part of the county roll call! Valarie will provide an informative training session where we will explore strategies for handling challenging situations when a client or customer chooses not to engage in the de- scalation process. Learn how to handle their immediate needs while ensuring your own safety. We will also evaluate options to successfully resolve the immediate and long- term involvement in such situations. Finally, we will look at some debriefing strategies to ensure that your mental health is preserved following these challenging exchanges.

In this session we will provide documentation best practices, including methods for making consistent and effective case notes. If you are new to child support or a seasoned worker, this training will help you decide what to include and what to leave out to capture the necessary information in SETS.
Don’t Forget Your Hardhat: Self-Care Strategies for Challenging Work	10/21/2024	10/21/2024	1:30 PM	2:45 PM	10/21/2024 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM Presenter: Jesse Schroeder Our work involves many challenges and potential dangers, such as burnout, emotional injury, secondary trauma, and more. This means that we must be intentional about self-care in order to be effective and healthy at work and in our personal lives. This session will make the case that self-care practices are essential and will provide a framework for developing your own self-care plan. Using a three-part model of “Regulate, Relate, Reason,” participants will learn why self-care is necessary, and get specific examples of strategies to include in their own self-care plan.
Invisible Injuries: Traumatic Brain Injury, Domestic Violence, and Strangulation	10/21/2024	10/21/2024	1:30 PM	2:45 PM	10/21/2024 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM Presenter: Rachel Ramirez Domestic violence abusers frequently target a victim’s head, neck, or face with often terrifying repeated assaults and strangulation. These invisible injuries can cause lasting challenges and affect how the brain works now and in the future. The injuries can make it harder for a survivor to access and use your services. Learn about tools to support your advocacy, educate survivors, and equip you to respond to their unique needs.

During this session we will discuss secondary trauma and mental health. Specifically, how to identify signs and symptoms to be aware of in yourself and colleagues and what to do if you become aware of any of these issues.
Creating a Culture of Accountability	10/21/2024	10/21/2024	3:15 PM	4:30 PM	10/21/2024 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM Presenter: Barb Utrup In this workshop, people explore why there may be a lack of accountability on a team and how to address it. They also reflect on how their own behaviors contribute to the success of, or lapse in, accountability. Participants leave with a practical understanding of what accountability is and actionable tools for driving results through others. They begin to see what's possible when they hold themselves accountable and when they create a culture of accountability.

OCS will discuss current program initiatives, recent accomplishments and upcoming efforts.
Integrating Self-Care: A Roundtable Discussion	10/21/2024	10/21/2024	3:15 PM	4:30 PM	10/21/2024 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM Presenter: Case Manager Collaboration Committee This roundtable is a continuation and discussion from “Don’t Forget Your Hardhat: Self-Care Strategies for Challenging Work” designed to empower individuals to prioritize their well-being. Attendees are expected to bring their own difficult client scenarios for discussion and reflection using the techniques learned earlier in the day. *Attendance in previous session is recommended but not required.
Supporting Safety for Survivors who Stay	10/21/2024	10/21/2024	3:15 PM	4:30 PM	10/21/2024 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM Presenter: Leah Stone Although safety planning typically focuses on safely ending an abusive relationship, not every person experiencing abuse is ready or able to leave. Participants will explore strategies to enhance safety and create choices for survivors who remain in contact or in a relationship with an abusive person, learn foundational skills for survivor-centered safety planning, and apply this knowledge to various scenarios.
The Impact of Child Support on SNAP/Cash Eligibility	10/21/2024	10/21/2024	3:15 PM	4:30 PM	10/21/2024 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM Presenter: Jennifer Brown This presentation will explore how child support impacts an individual's SNAP/Cash eligibility and/or allotment amount. It will cover the upcoming policy change to expand SNAP categorical eligibility and talk through some benefit cliff examples. The session will highlight the importance for all social service agencies to act in good conscience to support the most economically advantageous decisions that promote sustainable self-sufficiency for our Ohioans.

As property values have increased significantly in the last few years in most of Ohio, using recorded child support liens against real property to collect support payments has become an important tool for a CSEA. A panel of speakers will discuss how a child support lien against real property is asserted and recorded, basic principles/knowledge of foreclosure for CSEA attorneys, and how to utilize the child support lien for collection in a foreclosure court proceeding.

We talk about how state and local child support agencies receive funding to operate their programs. We will explain Federal Funding & Allocation and State Funding & Allocation. We review all performance categories and how they are measured in relation to funding. We will demonstrate how different actions during the life of a IV-D case impact funding.

But what's harder to understand are all the factors that impact and complicate survivors' decisions about safety. This simulation is designed to put you in the shoes of a survivor making decisions about safety in the context of child support services. Join Northwoods for an EDMS refresher that includes a brief overview of Ohio’s EDMS, best practices and tips and tricks to help you use the system more efficiently, and a review of improvements made to the EDMS since its rollout in 2018.
Mandated Reporting in Ohio	10/22/2024	10/22/2024	2:45 PM	4:00 PM	10/22/2024 2:45 PM - 4:00 PM Presenter: Chelsey Rennard This presentation will provide an overview of mandated reporting in Ohio. It will assist participants in identifying who is considered a mandated reporter, what their reporting responsibilities are, and what rights mandated reporters have. It will allow them to identify if they are a mandated reporter and will discuss how to make a referral. The presentation will include the state laws and policy surrounding mandated reporting. Participants will be able to identify potential indicators of child abuse and neglect to assist them in making a referral. The presentation will also include a brief overview of what happens to a referral once it is made. Resources will be included in the presentation.
